BSAM Sets a Good Example for Sustainable Utilization for the Winter Olympics Venues

On February 4, 2023, at the cordial invitation of BSAM, thousands of the Winter Olympics employees returned to “Bird’s Nest”, “Ice Cube” and “Ice Ribbon”, where they once worked. They jointly celebrated the first anniversary of the successful hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 (hereinafter referred to as “Beijing 2022”). As the owner of three major Winter Olympics venues (National Stadium, Beijing National Aquatics Center and National Speed Skating Oval), BSAM drew a blueprint for sustainable development of these three venues at the beginning of the construction and renovation. Following a complete success of the service guarantee tasks of Beijing 2022, the post-Games operation mode quickly prevails in these three venues under overall arrangement. Enabling with high technology and unveiling a new mode of smart venue operation

BSAM incorporates the construction of smart venues into the construction and renovation process of the Winter Olympics venues, makes full use of advanced technology, upgrades hardware the facilities of the venues, improves the operation efficiency of the venues, and expands the service realms.

“Bird’s Nest” relies on the advanced intelligent venue system, adopts scientific and technological means to improve quality of venue safety management and operation service, and unveils a new operation mode of smart service. On the basis of the existing smart swimming platform, “Ice Cube” adds smart ice sports, improves the scientific fitness processes from detection, evaluation, sports plan formulation to implementation, leverages such digital means as augmented reality, video motion-sensing and human-computer interaction, and provides creative and unique immersive service experience. Underpinned by smart management platform, “Ice Ribbon” gains ground in the function applications, such as site map, event information, ticketing management and sports health, creates stable, unimpeded and safe wireless usage scenarios, establishes new leisure consumption scenarios and new modes, and improves convenience, uniqueness and sociability of venue consumption experience.

Serving the people and fueling the recovery of cultural, sports and tourism consumption

After the Winter Olympics, BSAM insists on the philosophy of “sharing among all people”, coordinates the venues to quickly greet the visitors under the premise of epidemic prevention and control, launches a variety of cultural and leisure activities, helps Beijing citizens share the glory of the Winter Olympics, and injects new vitality into a better life. Since opening in the post-Games era, “Bird’s Nest”, “Ice Cube” and “Ice Ribbon” have received a total of 850,000 visitors. Before the Spring Festival of 2023, these three venues jointly sold ticket packages, created new scenarios for ice and snow sports and cultural experience consumption, and vigorously stimulated holiday consumption.

National Stadium launched a top-notch tourism experience route themed with “Dual Olympics”. Through the accessible home stage area, the people can take a closer look at “black technology” behind the opening and closing ceremonies of Beijing 2022. Cultural experience, sports and fitness and parent-child entertainment items are additionally available. With reference to the characteristics of the venue, National Speed Skating Oval always lays stress on improvement of tourist service and experience, offers high-quality sports tourism routes, and lets tourists understand the spirit of the Winter Olympics, recall the exciting scenes of Beijing 2022, and skate on the “fastest ice”. From February 5 to March 13, 2023, thematic exhibition of “Brilliant Winter Olympics” was held in “Ice Ribbon”, with an aim to help more Beijing citizens recall the grand Winter Olympics going down in history, continuously carry forward the spirit of Beijing 2022 and disseminate the outcomes of the Winter Olympics.

Joining national fitness and contributing to building China into a sports power

BSAM unswervingly combines sustainable utilization of the Winter Olympics venues with national fitness campaign, actively popularizes and spreads ice and snow sports, consolidates and outreaches the Winter Olympics achievements for “encouraging 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports”.

Speed skating track of “Ice Ribbon”, Curling Competition Hall and the newly-built Ice Sports Center of “Ice Cube” are wholly open to the public, allowing Beijing citizens to experience the “fastest ice” and appreciate the unique charm of “chess on ice”. Under the theme of “Ice and Snow of Bird’s Nest · Cheerful Dual Olympics”, the 12th “Happy Ice and Snow Season at Bird’s Nest” thrilled the whole Beijing City and diversified the ways of fitness and sports and leisure for the people. Beijing National Aquatics Center switched on the “water-ice dual drive” operation mode, and held Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Swimming Open Championship & The 8th Beijing National Swimming Competition, attracting thousands of swimmers. On February 4, 2023, National Speed Skating Oval and Beijing Skating Association jointly held the first match of “Ice Ribbon” Beijing Citizens Speed Skating Series to vigorously spread skating for the people. In celebration of the 14th “National Fitness Day”, National Speed Skating Oval also organized a thematic event entitled “Let Us Enjoy in the ‘Ice Ribbon’ and Go Skating for Healthy Lifestyle”. “Ice Ribbon” is designed to meet the diversified needs of the people for ice sports training, and it has provided trainings on speed skating, short-track speed skating, figure skating and other ice sports for nearly 6,000 persons up to now.

Pooling resources and rolling out top-grade sports powerhouses

BSAM continuously intensifies cooperation with domestic and foreign sports organizations, actively plans to introduce high-level international and domestic events, and renders professional sports training support services.

Beijing National Aquatics Center has established strategic cooperation with World Curling Federation and China Curling Association. Joint efforts are made for the development of curling in China and the sustainable utilization of the Winter Olympics heritage by setting up Training Center of World Curling Academy at Ice Sports Center of “Ice Cube” and holding international curling events and a series of curling trainings. Thanks to the cooperation between National Speed Skating Oval and International Skating Union, “International Skating Union Center of Excellence” has been settled in “Ice Ribbon”, which is committed to serving as international exchange center, training center and drill center of the global skating sport. A total of nearly 5,000 members of the national speed skating team and district-level and county-level professional teams have received drill services up to now.

Conveying concerns and promoting social civilization and progress

BSAM actively gives shape to the social public welfare value of the Winter Olympics venues, explores a perfect combination of sustainable utilization of the Winter Olympics venues and the Olympic education, carries out public welfare activities, and shows concerns for special groups.

BSAM, Beijing Municipal Education Commission and Beijing Olympic City Development Foundation jointly launched a series of Beijing primary and secondary school students’ Olympic education activities on the Winter Olympics venues at Beijing National Aquatics Center, which were themed with “Ice Sports Leads to a Bright Future”, among which Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei primary and secondary school students’ keynote speech competition formally kicked off on February 4, 2023. National Speed Skating Oval cooperated with Beijing No. 9 Middle School and The High School Affiliated to Communication University of China to jointly carry out school ice and snow sports practice activities. At present, both Ice Sports Center of “Ice Cube” and National Speed Skating Oval have been honorably awarded “Beijing Youth Extracurricular Activities Center for Ice and Snow Sports”. BSAM spares no effort to advocate the concept of public welfare and charity, stimulates special groups to participate in sports activities, and promotes the construction of an inclusive society. In April 2022, “Ice Cube” and “Ice Ribbon” jointly held “Light It Up Blue” Event and called on the society-wide care for autistic groups. In August 2022, Beijing National Aquatics Center and China Social Welfare Foundation held “Water Cube Charity Bazaar” to show concerns for the growth of left-behind children. In September 2022, National Speed Skating Oval organized Public Welfare Experience Day themed with “Light up ‘Ice Ribbon’ Together to a Shared Future”, and unveiled the nameplate of “National Speed Skating Oval 08-22 Football Field”. As a football competition and training venue dedicated to the blind, this substantially supports sports development of the disabled.

In the wake of the Summer Olympic Games Beijing 2008, BSAM vividly puts Chinese Experience in “repeated utilization, comprehensive utilization and lasting utilization” of sports venues into practice, and solves the global problems in the post-Games utilization of super-large Olympics venues.
